 Many developing countries are currently expanding their tourist industry. Why is it the case? Is it a positive development or not?

MODEL:
        Prompted by globalization and commercialization, the tourism industry has been emphasized by many governments due to its trait of economy. Therefore, many under developed and less prosperous countries come up with

various methods to scale up their tourism industry. In this short essay, I will present the following reasons for this tendency and explore the possible developments derived from tourism.

Firstly, it is widely acknowledged that tourism industry is viewed as ‘cash cow’ mainly because it brings about a large sum of income, consisting of ticket income, souvenir, and others related to this industry. When tourists,

especially foreign ones enter into the local tourists attractions, consuming the service of the local culture, which stimulates the development of consumption economy. Secondly, with regards to technological advancement,

developing countries have met many dead ends and are often struggling for technological updating due to technology barriers. So, investing in such technology, for example manufacture, faces gigantic risks and may not reach the desired result. In contrast, without high demand for cutting edge technology, developing countries can easily expand the scale of tourism and increase the tax income in short period.

This policy of expansion of tourism has exerted some negative impacts. To begin with, the prosperity of tourism may attract the majority of funds so much so that investment in other fields has shrunk to some degree. So, the imbalance of industrialization leads to the weakening competitiveness of this country. Besides, environmental deterioration is not uncommon in these regions where the authorities often ignored the protection of scenic spots.

If the policy of expansion were implemented, more infrastructure would be built around this place, leading to the damage of ecosystem.

 As conclusion, the policy of government should be enacted with the consideration of the allround development. Although developing tourism can stimulate the economy of the country, investment in other fields may also

taken into account.
